Installation Statement
I have always considered myself a painter, since my first art class in high school where I learned about color, composition and form. Within the last year, I fell out of love with painting and found a newfound love with printmaking. To be clear, this show is a culmination of how my paintings have been influenced by prints, and how both printing and painting have become an integral part of my process as an artist. I create to formulate. The formulation of thoughts and experiences lead to long rolls and hard swipes of black ink on plexi glass. Each mark correlates to a movement and a rhythm that is present.
I work through the use of black oil based relief ink which is then applied onto clear plexi glass using brayers and scrapers. The ink is rolled and pushed to create abstract images that rely heavily on the interactions of each mark and the movement of each fluid scrape. When I view my work I see hesitation, fear, anxiety, but I also find beauty, confidence and strength in my work. I do not expect the viewer to feel what I feel, but to draw their own conclusion from moving around the plexi glass to let the change of perspective influence them. -2017.
