Thirty
A series of screenprints created in the year leading up to turning thirty years old and as I navigated being a new mom. My goal was to create shapes and marks that depicted how I felt daily, weekly and monthly. There were many moments of excitement, peace and tranquility, overwhelm and frustration, and by creating marks, building layers, using variations of transparent ink I was able to create a visualization of my journey into motherhood by using the materials that i work with at my job.
In creating these pieces, I intuitively chose the marks to burn on my screen and selected a minimal color palette of transparent blues and greens. As I started printing, I would lay out each piece so that they all would be in conversation with each other, with some having only select marks and others with many many layers of alternating marks. With the repetition of the same marks across the series, it mirrored my daily life that was filled with routine and yet still was dictated by the chaos and unpredictability of having a child.
Thirty, the complete series, is comprised of 18 untitled pieces. The dimensions of each piece are 15”x22”. The series can be moved and modified based on the exhibition space and is meant to adapt just like moms do. Completed in 2024.
